Cab drivers stage protest against ‘anti-Kannada’ MNC

July 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

Many cab drivers gathered at the World Trade Centre in Yeshwantpur on Monday to protest against their removal from service by a multinational online retailer.

A driver alleged that the company had cancelled the contracts of 500 cabs.

The protesters alleged that they were being targeted as they spoke Kannada, which was an issue with the company as it had many out-of-State employees.

Radhakrishna Holla, president, Bangalore Tourist Taxi Owners’ Association, says, “Many drivers are from rural areas and struggle to speak in other languages. Misunderstandings occur, and organisations tend to sideline these drivers.”
