A day after two children were bitten by stray dogs in BTS Layout in Arakere, medical authorities at the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), where the children were admitted, on Thursday said that their condition was stable and were responding to treatment.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mahalakshmi,mother of Marthanda (4) and Mylari (2), said: “They were playing on the road around 2.30 p.m. when the dog attacked them. There are at least five or six strays in the area. We initially rushed them to Apollo Hospital for first aid and then shifted them to KIMS. We have already complained to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities.”
Her elder son was bitten on the back of his head and near his cheeks while the younger was bitten on his ear. KIMS Hospital Administrator Veeranna said that it was a Category 3 bite (deep lacerated wounds) and the children had been administered anti-rabies vaccination (ARV).

“They have also been referred to oral maxillo-facial surgery and plastic surgery as well,” he said.
The anguished mother said two other children were also bitten — on the back — in the neighbourhood, but she didn’t know if they had been treated.
Parvez Ahmed Piran, Joint Director (Animal Husbandry), BBMP, said 11 other dogs were rounded up in the area and administered ARV.

BBMP authorities, quoting local residents, said the dogs may have attacked the children as they had food with them.
