Bhavan holds ‘Yellow Frames'

To highlight the rise of Indian crossover cinema in the West, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in association with American Corner has organised “Yellow Frames”, an Indo-American film festival.

Inaugurated by V.K. Murthy, Dada Phalke Award winner, on Friday, the two-day festival will include movies such as Indian Cowboy , American Chai and Mississippi Masala .

To everyone's amusement, Mr. Murthy charmed the audience with one of the shortest inaugural speeches ever.

He began his speech with a joke describing a similar occasion where one of the guests was asked to speak.

He said the guest was not sure of what to say so he simply came up, greeted the audience and thanked them for inviting him here, after saying this Mr. Murthy quickly made his way back to his seat much to the surprise of the audience who clapped and chuckled never the less

Robert Kerr, acting public affair officer for the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, spoke of the recent trend of American Film Production houses showing interest in making movies for the Indian market.

According to him, Disney, Warner Brothers and many others had already made plans for the making of such films. Actor B. Saroja Devi and Chairman of Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan N. Ramanuja were present.
