BBMP worker electrocuted

A newlywed contract worker with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was electrocuted when she accidentally touched a wire jutting out of a junction box in front of Jayanagar swimming pool here Saturday afternoon.

Tilaknagar police, who have registered a case of negligence against the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom), said Rajeshwari (18), an Andhra Pradesh native who had got married barely three months ago, was sweeping the road when she accidentally touched the live cable jutting out of a junction box of a Ring Maintenance Unit (RMU) of 11,000 kV.

Death was instantaneous.

Mayor S.K. Nataraj announced a compensation of Rs. 1.2 lakh to Rajeshwari's family.

Antique idol theft

The Ramamurthynagar police arrested three men for allegedly stealing an antique idol, valued at Rs. 40 lakh in the international market, here on Thursday night.

R. Ravindra Achari (38) of Sulibele near Hoskote, and V. Srinivas Reddy (41) and B. Noor Saab (60) from Kagathi village in Chintamani taluk of Chickballapur district were arrested near the MTB Kalyan Mantap on Outer Ring Road in Ramamurthynagar.

The Shiva idol was stolen from a temple in Chintamani taluk.
