The deaths of carnivorous animals at the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) continued with a four-month-old tiger cub dying in the safari area. With this, the total number of deaths of tigers and lions rises to five.
According to a BBP official, the cub, one of the four born to the tigress Gowri, appeared subdued on Friday and it was given treatment. A keeper found it dead on Saturday morning.
The BBP officials suspect it might have been infected by salmonella and E. coli bacterial strains from the chicken fed to the tigers. Divya, the tigress which died of bacterial infection last week, was penned close to the place the cub was corralled.

Officials have sent its carcass to the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biological to know the cause of death. Three tigers and two lions have died in the Bannerghatta Biological Park in the past seven days and 11 tigers are being treated for gastroenteritis and diarrhoea.
