A film artiste working on the Kannada remake of the Tamil film VIP (Velaiyilla Pattathari) died under mysterious circumstances on Monday evening. The deceased has been identified as Padmavathi (44), who was employed as a supporting actor in the movie.

According to sources, the unit was shooting at Rajankunte, Avalahalli. The shoot consisted of 120 artistes who were shooting at a construction site, and it packed up around 5.30 p.m. Later, while a headcount was done in order to arrange for payment, it was discovered that Padmavathi was missing. Her body was found in a secluded spot on the site almost two hours later.

The Rajankunte police visited the spot in the night. The crew sealed off the set and the shooting area, and officials could not be reached for comment. However, another artiste working on the set said that while shooting was going on at the ground level, a small group was sent to the first floor for a shot. It could have be at this time that Padmavathi was left behind.
