A late night trip by three friends to have ice cream ended in tragedy as the bike they were riding was knocked down by a speeding bus, killing one of them and grievously injuring the other two.

Shyam, Bhavik, both aged 24 years, residents of Sheshadripuram and working at a private firm, were out with their colleague Sourabh (23) to have an ice cream at a parlour at Shivananda Circle around midnight.

The accident occurred at around 1 a.m. when the trio were on the bike and reached the Race Course junction to take a right towards Gandhinagar, when a speeding KSRTC bus coming from the Anand Rao circle side knocked them down. The bus ran over the bike and one of the pillion riders Sourabh, killing him on the spot. The other two Shyam, who was riding the bike, and Bhavik sustained severe injuries and multiple fractures. The duo are being treated at a private hospital nearby.

Sourabh, who was from Maharashtra, was residing at Maratha Hostel in Gandhinagar. Shyam and Bhavik were on their way to Gandhinagar to drop Sourabh off at the hostel, when the accident occurred.

High Grounds Traffic police have now registered a case against Nagaraj, the KSRTC bus driver and detained him. The bus was on its way to Madanapalli from Kempegowda Bus Stand. However, the three friends were riding triples on a bike and the two pillion riders were not wearing helmet in violation of traffic norms.
