Students of Yerthaganahalli Government School near .Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) got on opportunity to watch a fire drill at the airport as part of Fire Prevention Week, which commenced on Wednesday.

On Fire Service Day, the first day of Fire Prevention Week, the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team trained a batch of 25 students to control a fire and taught them basic fire prevention and safety techniques.

The children were given classroom training to prevent home fires, followed by a mock drill at a fire pit. The week-long activities will include onsite training for them.

On completion of the training programme, each student will receive a participation certificate from Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL). The ARFF team will train 260 children from 12 neighbouring schools this year.

Inaugurating the programme, Marcel Hungerbuehler, CEO, BIAL, said: “Simple precautions can be taken to avoid a fire; and basic awareness on how to react if an incident does happen, can save precious lives.”

“This is the first time that someone has come forward to impart such valuable training to our students. By this… BIAL will empower the larger community with knowledge on how to react wisely during a fire,” said B.N. Venkatesh, a teacher at the Yerthaganahalli Government School.
