As many as 9,720 RTE quota seats in private schools remained vacant after the second round of the lottery was conducted on Monday. Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammad Mohsin said that parents would soon get messages if they had obtained seats in the second round and urged them to complete admissions in the next 10 days.
In the second round, 17,198 seats were allotted to students after filtering 79,590 applications. Mr. Mohsin said that while 26,918 seats were in the seat matrix, many were vacant as they were rejected by parents. He said that notices would be sent to 237 schools which had zero applications. “Parents may have rejected the schools as they do not have infrastructure or well-trained teachers,” he said.
The department said that while they had considered applications both within and outside the ward in the first round, in the second preference was given to students living within the ward.
