70-year-old faces rape charge

A 70-year-old man was arrested for the alleged rape of a mentally challenged woman in Neelasandra on Tuesday evening. According to a complaint filed in the Ashoknagar police, Dastagir Khan barged into the 22-year-old's house and raped her.

The victim's mother, a nurse, was away at work and when she returned, her daughter told her what happened.

A complaint was lodged following which Khan was arrested. A medical test confirmed the rape. “We believe he targeted the woman because she was mentally challenged,” said the police.

Bag snatched

In what could be termed as a heist on high speed, cash and gold worth over Rs. 1 lakh were snatched from a woman riding pillion on a motorcycle on Wednesday morning.

Around 7 a.m., Bharathi and her younger brother were going from their home in N.P. Lane, Cottonpet, to their father's house in Sarawathi Layout, Vijayanagar. At the turn on the Tank Bund Road, an unidentified man following them on a motorcycle snatched Ms. Bharathi's bag and raced away, Cottonpet police said.

In her complaint, Ms. Bharathi said the bag contained Rs. 28,000 in cash and a 36 gm gold chain.

Butcher murdered

A teenaged butcher was brutally stabbed to death by three men in Dommasandra late Tuesday night. Manjunath (19), who worked in his father's shop in Janata Colony in Dommasandra, was called out by his friend Ranjith on the pretext of going to a nearby hospital. The duo had been quarrelling about money in the past few weeks, said the Hebbagodi police. A little away, at an isolated spot, Ranjith was joined by Shiva and Sandeep, and the trio allegedly stabbed Manjunath to death.

Run over

A man was killed after he came under the wheels of a lorry on Outer Ring Road on Wednesday morning. According to the Kumaraswamy Layout Traffic police, around 9.30 a.m. Enayatullah (20), a welder, was going on his moped on the Outer Ring Road near Iliyasnagar, when the truck rear-ended him. He lost his balance and came under the lorry's wheels.
