60 Uber, Ola taxis seized

May 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 12, 2016 08:25 pm IST - Bengaluru:

Illegal:The aggregators are yet to be granted a licence to operate taxis under the new rules.

The Transport Department on Tuesday seized 60 Uber and Ola taxis when they were exiting the Kempegowda International Airport.

Ola had last week announced a tie-up with the Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), in which the aggregator would be given a special parking and pick-up area at the airport.

Both aggregators are yet to be granted a licence to operate taxis under the new rules which came into effect on April 2. As of now, their services are considered to be ‘illegal’ by the Transport Department. Interestingly, BIAL refused to comment about the tie-up announced by Ola. However, senior Transport Department officials said no such agreement was signed and that the two companies had just been allotted parking space at the airport. The seized vehicles have been parked at a bus depot in Hebbal, officials said.
