Learning from the garbage crisis that plagued the city not too long ago, the State government has taken steps towards better solid waste management (SWM). The budget proposes six SWM units with a processing capacity of 2,800 tonnes at a cost of Rs. 270 crore. The one at Singena Agrahara is especially for vegetable waste. That apart, Swachchata Mission will be taken up in Bengaluru, and in 219 cities and towns in the State at a cost of Rs. 80 crore.
