52.2 mm rainfall hits traffic, power supply

After two days of dark clouds and drizzle, the day saw the return of torrential rain, and even hailstorm in certain parts of the city affecting traffic movement and electricity supply besides uprooting many trees.

There was traffic jam on Mysuru Road, Richmond Road flyover, Old Airport Road and Ballari Road. Traffic police were coordinating traffic flow.

The control room of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was inundated with phone calls through the evening. Trees were uprooted at more than 30 places in the city, while at least four low-lying areas were inundated.

The city’s fragile drainage system lay exposed as most junctions and roads became waterlogged after the spell of rain. A few houses at Rajajinagar, Kanteerava Studio, Madiwala and Yeshwantpur were inundated in the rains, said the BBMP control room.

The roof of a house in Indiranagara Defence Colony caved in after a tree fell on it.

Tree falls were reported from at the busy Queen’s Road, Ashoka Pillar at Jayanagar, Yeshwantpur, Mathikere Bus Stand, Peenya II Stage, among others.
