After the crackdown on over 5,000 autorickshaw drivers in the city this week, the Bengaluru City Traffic Police have now turned their attention on two-wheeler riders. As many as 16,475 two-wheeler riders were booked by the traffic police during a special drive against traffic violators on Wednesday.
The drive was conducted between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. It focussed on intercepting two-wheeler riders who rode on footpaths, without helmets, going on the wrong side or in no-entry areas, and those involved in rash and negligent riding, and triple riding.
Among the 16,000-odd vehicles booked, a total of 253 two-wheelers were seized and licences of 148 two-wheeler riders were confiscated. These licences will be submitted to the Transport Department with a recommendation to suspend them. Bengaluru West division recorded as many as 4,695 cases.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B. Dayananda said many two-wheeler riders were flouting traffic rules, especially during early morning.
“This is the reason why we started the special drive at around 6 a.m. The drive was taken up to enforce the traffic rules and warn two-wheeler riders against disregarding them,” he added.
