Alert residents rescued a 10-year-old girl from a three-member gang that was trying to kill her after abducting her from Shivaji Nagar on Wednesday.

The attempt to kill the girl failed as the child’s cries drew the attention of people in the neighbourhood. The trio abandoned the victim and fled from the spot.

The girl was near her house when the trio picked her up in a four-wheeler. They drove around the city for some time before taking her to a building in Bhuwaneshwarinagar in Hebbal.

When they attempted to strangulate her using a rope on the terrace of a house, the girl raised an alarm. This drew the attention of local residents who rushed to the building.

Seeing them, the trio abandoned the girl on the terrace and fled from the spot.

The girl told the local residents that she was forcefully taken to different places in a car. She shared her father’s mobile number.

The girl was taken to a hospital where she is undergoing treatment. The parents lodged a complaint with the police on February 15.

“There is definite information about one suspect,” said the police inspector. The girl was not sexually assaulted, the inspector added.
