An unusual sight greeted commuters at the otherwise busy KGH and its surroundings on Sunday morning. The regular chaotic lane was lined by two rows of students and volunteers, armed with gloves, sticks and masks, on either side of the street. And instructing them on their task to clean up the hospital area was K. Hari Babu, MP.
The volunteers went about cleaning the area in a systematic manner following the instructions of the MP, who directed them to clean the area by moving around in a six feet radius distance at a time. In a span of an hour, the place was garbage-free, donning a fresh look.
The initiative was undertaken by MEECONS in association with CitYzen – the CSR arm of Phoenix IT Solutions – as part the Clean India Sweep – II campaign of Chennai Trekking Club. Similar cleaning activities were held at cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Madurai, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Dharmapuri, and Tuticorin on Sunday.

In the Revamp Vizag initiative, members of MEECONS, CitYzen, students of Andhra Medical College and from other colleges, sanitation staff and general public participated to clean parts of KGH and AMC. Around 80 people participated in the event. During the hour-long initiative, they planted 100 trees in the area and put up cleanliness awareness posters in various wards of KGH. Plants were planted near AMC office, Modern Mortuary Ward, AMC Library and Super Specialty Building.
Hari Babu was the chief guest on the occasion. Swatchh Bharat ambassadors Prof. V. Balamohan Das and Murali Krishna Gannamani, MD and CEO of Phoenix IT Solutions were present. Vani Gannamani, director of CitYzen and Dr. P.V. Sudhakar of KGH participated in the programme.

A team of sanitation people from GVMC also joined the event. Phoenix IT Solutions was the chief sponsor of the event, while VVR Associates and Varun Medicals were the co-sponsors. The plants were donated by G.S.S.N. Raju of GSR Trust.
