Water supply: Rs. 56 cr. for each dist.

Each district has been sanctioned Rs. 56 crore to ensure drinking water supply to each habitation and there is no drinking water scarcity during summer, Minister for Panchayati Raj and Rural Water Supply Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu has said.

All the Panchayati Raj engineers have to tour each habitation, check the bore wells and other sources of drinking water and ensure that they are operational and maintained well. If need be new bore wells will be drilled to supply water, the Minister said.

“In case, the bore wells are not working, the engineers should get them repaired immediately and ensure that defunct bore wells are closed. The bore wells with high fluoride content should be labelled so as to prevent people from using water from them. The Government would not tolerate any laxity in this task,” he cautioned.

Each mandal has been sanctioned Rs. 7 crore for the purpose, he said at a national seminar organised at the AU College of Engineering (Autonomous) here on Sunday, marking the World Water Day.

The programme was jointly conducted by the AU College of Engineering, Rural Water Supply Department, GVMC and Bharat Teertha Trust.

The government was committed to delivering 50 litres of potable water per capita, the Minister said, adding that necessary funds were being sanctioned for the water projects.
