Walkathon organised on food security

The Dhan Foundation organised a walkathon in support of food security mission from Gandhi statue to Gurajada Kalakshetram in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. Urban Community Development Project Director M.N.A. Patrudu flagged off the walkathon.

Later, addressing a meeting at the auditorium, Integrated Child Development Scheme Project Director Chinmaya Devi said, providing nutritious food to children was of paramount importance.

The programme should also be implemented through self-help groups. Awareness on the issue was being created to SHG women.

Senior scientist N.D.R.K. Sarma said human beings get more than 70 per cent of nutrition by consuming millets and pulses.

Due to increase in health awareness, their consumption also received a boost.

NABARD Assistant General Manager Prasad said due to changing lifestyle, people were consuming junk food, resulting in the body receiving inadequate nutrition.

Food and Nutrition Department training coordinator Venkateswarlu offered to give training in preparation of nutritious food.

Dhan Foundation regional coordinator K. Rama Prabha revealed an year-long action plan for creating awareness among the general public on the subject.

Several stalls on nutrition had been set up at the venue of the meeting.
