Thanks to the introduction of an online web-based application, the time being taken by the city police to issue Police Verification Report (PVR) for passport applicants will be drastically reduced.
“At present the time taken for issue of PVR is two to three weeks and we will now reduce it to three to four days. The PVR will be scanned and uploaded immediately by the police official concerned after physical verification of the documents submitted by the applicant,” Police Commissioner Amit Garg said.
The Passport Police Verification Service (PPVS) was formally launched by Director-General of Police J.V. Ramudu at the Police Commissionerate here on Saturday.

The passport application received from the passport office would be forwarded every day to the field-level verification officer (head constable of special branch wing) through the software. The official would check the application on his tab, contact and meet the applicant, verify his/her credentials and send a verification report online to the passport verification cell, which sends the report to the passport office.
An added advantage is that the applicants will get automatic SMS and e-mail about the status of the police verification process.
