August 06, 2013 12:06 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 11:45 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

VUDA has been playing a vital role in making the Green Visakha Project a reality, apart from acting as a guiding agency in its implementation, said Vice-Chairman N. Yuvaraj on Monday.

So far 12,000 saplings were planted at various places with successful survival rate and further action plan has also been taken up to fill vacant places available at all VUDA layouts and housing schemes, he said on Monday after a meeting to review the implementation of the project.

He insisted the participating industries to shoulder the responsibility as a social obligation. He said successful implementation of the Green Visakha Project would not only contribute for making Visakhapatnam a pollution free city but help fetch the city a pride of place at the global level.

The participating industries were allocated areas for plantation and targets were to be reached before the completion of the season, Mr. Yuvaraj told the representatives attended the meeting. Industries lagging behind should cover plantation of given number of saplings with no delay as the Parliamentary Committee dealing with it is very particular about the progress of the project, he said.
