The district police achieved a major success over the banned CPI (Maoist) when it arrested a two-member action team, including a 20-year-old girl, and recovered a country-made revolver and five rounds of live ammunition from them on Wednesday. The capture was said to be the first of its kind in the State.

“Catching action team members is a difficult task but we could achieve it. They carry weapons and live ammunition and take precautions and get logistic support from their people”, Mr. Fakkeerappa said. The three claimed that they were planning to throw pamphlets at villages. Some pamphlets were seized from Usha.

The action teams of Maoists had been on the lookout for politicians and police officers during campaigning for the just concluded General Elections. The ASP said some more action teams were moving around in the Paderu Sub-Division. Praveen was allegedly involved in several incidents since 2010 Usha was also involved in the two cases of snatching of the nomination papers and ballot boxes.
