A man tonsured his live-in partner and assaulted her as she reportedly failed to comply with his demand for dowry. Though the shocking incident occurred at Sarabannapalem village under Koyyuru on Wednesday, it came to light only on Thursday evening.
S. Bala Kumar (24) of Sarabannapalem fell in love with KL Durga Bhavani (19) of Gummapalem in Koyyuru mandal. Bhavani reportedly convinced Kumar to elope with her after her family members started looking for an alliance for her. The couple were in a live-in relationship for the past six months at Sarabannapalem. Kumar, who had passed Intermediate, had no job. He started harassing Bhavani over trivial issues and used to abuse and beat her up frequently asking her to bring dowry. A few weeks ago Bhavani poured out her grief in front of her friends and relatives. They all chided Kumar but it had little impact on him. Kumar assaulted Bhavani and tonsured her. On getting information from the villagers, Koyyuru SI Ch. Venkata Rao and his team rushed to the village and got the victim, who was in a state of shock, admitted to the Government Hospital at Narsipatnam for treatment.
A case was registered against Bala Kumar and he was taken into custody.
