Visakhapatnam: Tributes paid to Ambedkar on his 131st birth anniversary

Collector calls upon youth to tread upon path shown by him

Political leaders paid glowing tributes to B.R. Ambekar at government offices and educational institutions on his 131^st birth anniversary in the city on Thursday.

The participants recalled the contributions made by Ambedkar, known as the Father of the Constitution, towards the cause of the downtrodden sections of society.

Collector A. Mallikarjuna garlanded the statute of Ambedkar at LIC Circle and paid tributes. He called upon the youth to tread on the path shown by Ambedkar.

Joint Collector K.S. Viswanathan, Trainee Collector Aditi Singh, Special Deputy Collector Rangaiah and Social Welfare Officer Ramana Murthy garlanded the statue and paid tributes.

Andhra University Vice Chancellor P.V.G.D. Prasad Reddy said the life of Ambedkar was an inspiration to the masses. Ambedkar had accepted every challenge that came his way and turned it into an opportunity to better himself, he said.

Rector K. Samata, Registrar V. Krishna Mohan and CDC Dean S. Satyanarayana were among those who spoke.

BJP leaders organised a function at the party office in the city to mark the occasion. BJP State general secretary and MLC PVN Madhav, and Parliament district president Raveendra Medapati garlanded the Ambedkar statue at LIC Circle and paid tributes.

BJP SC Morcha district president Koduru Sanjeeva Rao distributed 200 portraits of Ambedkar to party leaders and workers.

TDP leaders Palla Srinivasa Rao, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, and Duvvarapu Rama Rao paid rich tributes to Ambedkar and recalled his contribution to the oppressed sections

Jammana Prasanna Kumar, Chairman of A.P. Township & Infrastructure Development Corporation, and Dr. P. Mythili, Superintendent of King George Hospital, participated in the programme organised by Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) at its head office in the city. They recalled the contribution of Ambedkar in eradicating social evils.

DCI MD and CEO G.Y.V Victor spoke of the contributions made by Ambedkar towards the uplift of the oppressed in society.

GITAM School of Law Director R. Anitha Rao, faculty members, officers and staff paid homage to Dr. Ambedkar at the campus.
