Visakhapatnam shuttler wins bronze medals at World meet

B.V.S.K. Lingeswara Rao who won bronze medals in singles and doubles competition in the plus 45 years category of the World badminton seniorschampionships held in Ankara.

B.V.S.K. Lingeswara Rao, city shuttler, won two bronze medals at the senior World Badminton Championships held at Ankara in Turkey last week. Lingeswara Rao, seeded No. 2, claimed the bronze in plus 45 years singles event and in the company of A. Venkata Raju, won the doubles bronze medal.

He accounted for two of the five medals India won at the championships.

India won five medals in the world championships and four of the medal winners are from Andhra Pradesh and among them Lingeswara Rao’s two medals is also said to be first by a single player.

Noted coach Pullela Gopichand congratulated Lingeswara Rao and others for winning the medals.

Mayur Thawade of Maharashtra won the plus 45 years singles silver medal and Sasidhar claimed the plus 35 years singles bronze medal.
