Marking the martyrdom of Comrade Jatin Das, who along with Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and Bhakteswar Das, breathed his last during the 112-day fast in Lahore Jail during the freedom struggle demanding the right to be treated as a political prisoner, the prisoners of Visakhapatnam Central Jail, both ordinary and political, will observe a one-day fast inside the prison on Thursday.
On September 13, 1929 Jatin Das attained martyrdom after a 62-day fast. The ordinary and political prisoners of the Visakhapatnam Central Jail, in a release issued in Visakhapatnam by P. Kranti on their behalf on Wednesday, urged the members of civil society and family members of the prisoners, intellectuals and others to support their fast demanding prison reforms.
The prisoners criticised the government for imprisoning the tribal people opposing its move to sell natural resources to multi-nationals. The government in the name of Green Hunt was victimising the innocent tribal people who were trying to protect the forests and the natural wealth of the people.
