Two killed, three injured in road accident

Two persons were killed and three others injured when a tipper carrying soil fell on a stationary auto-rickshaw after hitting the road divider on the National Highway - 16 near NAD Junction in the early hours of Saturday.

The dead were identified as M. Ashok Kumar (38) of Appayya Nagar Colony beside the National Highway at Marripalem and B. Madhusudhan Rao (30) of Gajuwaka.

Ashok Kumar was running a canteen at Sheela Nagar and left home at around 4 a.m.

His parents, wife, and brothers were inconsolable when the body was brought home after post-mortem at King George Hospital.

Relatives and neighbours were all the more saddened to find his two young sons, who were unable to fathom the gravity of the situation. “Ashok was buried under the soil,” Ashok Kumar’s relatives said quoting eyewitnesses.

Three others, including the driver of the auto-rickshaw, who were injured, were admitted to KGH, where their condition was said to be stable. The accident occurred at around 4.30 a.m. when the tipper was going towards Sheela Nagar and the auto-rickshaw stopped to pick up passengers, Inspector (Traffic) Malla Vishnu said.

Driver of the tipper lost control over the vehicle due to over-speeding and hit the traffic post. The tipper fell on the auto crushing it.

Kancharapalem police registered a case.
