The five-day Thyagaraja Aaradhanotsavam began on an impressive note here on Thursday.
Renowned musicologist Munuganti Sreerama Murthy, chief guest at the inaugural session, said that life and works of Thyagaraja constitute the fountainhead of Carnatic classical music and are a great source of inspiration for music world.

Though devotional fervour in its myriad shades form the predominant mood of Thyagayya’s compositions, his works are not devoid of social concern, he maintained. Substantiating his observation, he quoted relevant lines from different krithis and explained in detail how Thyagaraja was concerned about social issues of his time.
In a way, Thyagaraja was a revolutionary in the realm of classical music, he averred. Explaining the difference between keerthana and krithi, he said that Thyagaraja through his immortal compositions lent life and soul to the genre of krithi. Due accent on lyrical nuances of the compositions on the part of singers particularly youngsters, would enhance the emotional appeal of music, Mr. Muniganti said .
Earlier, the organisers felicitated him in recognition of his yeoman service to the cause of classical music. Founder president Kalabharati C.S.N. Raju, secretary G. Rambabu, renowned sangeetha vidwan I.V.L. Sastry of Sangeetha Janakulam took part.

On Friday, Thiruveedhi Nagara Sankeerthana is scheduled to begin from Kalabharati at 7:45 a.m. after a pooja. This would be followed by Pancha Ratna Seva and Ghana Raga Pancha Ratna Keertanulu at 8:30 a.m.
From 9:40 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tyagaraja Kritis will be rendered by several local and outstation musicians.
