The three-day centenary celebrations of Andhra Medical College (AMC) will begin here on October 27. Dr. T. Ravi Raju, chairman of the centenary celebrations committee, said that at least 3,000 alumni of the college from all over the world are expected to attend the programme.

Speaking to reporters at the AMC campus on Tuesday, Dr. Ravi Raju said that Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony on the college campus. An under-construction AMC Centenary Building will also be formally inaugurated by Mr. Dhankar.
Alumni, who wanted to do something useful for the students, came forward to construct the building without relying on the government’s financial aid. The State government has allocated 1.6 acres of land next to the medical college for the building. The construction of the building was completed at a cost of around ₹50 crore with the donations collected from the alumni, he added.
Talking about the schedule of the programme, Dr. Ravi Raju said that the inaugural session will be held on the AMC premises, while the remaining three days of the programme will be held at the Andhra University Convocation Centre. On the second day of the programme, Governor S. Abdul Nazeer will be the chief guest while Health Minister Vidadala Rajini and other Ministers will participate in the sessions.
AMC Principal Butchiraju said that there will be a musical night in the celebrations on the valedictory day and skits by the alumni. The college was started on July 19, 1923 with 32 students. It became a super-speciality hospital by 1950. The AMC is one of the seven oldest colleges in the country. Those who had studied in this college are settled in the country and abroad and are providing medical services, he said. Apart from this, a pylon will also be inaugurated to mark the centenary celebration, he said while adding that there are a very few colleges celebrating centenary celebrations in the country, and AMC is one of them.
