Tension prevailed on Monday morning at Kapparada where VUDA and Revenue officials, while marking encroachments and erecting fences to safeguard VUDA land, were accosted by residents living there.

The residents were agitated that they had been living there with power and water connections and worried that they might also come under the scanner of officials marking encroachments.

VUDA has initiated moves of late to identify encroachments in 18 acres of land in Survey No.9/6 of Kapparada which was handed over to it by the Revenue Department.

Demolitions

On Friday, a four-storied building that encroached upon 120 square yards of VUDA land and two sheds built on two sites of 260 and 180 square yards were removed. The demolition followed a visit by Vice-Chairman Kona Sasidhar. When officials went on Monday to mark the encroachments and erect fences locals mobbed them leading to a tense situation. However, it was learnt that the permanent structures would not be touched.

VUDA Estate Officer M. Venkateswara Rao and MRO (Urban) Dharmachandra Reddy supervised the operations.
