Due to the sustained efforts of the District TB Control unit and the network of field level staff to sensitise the stakeholders the incidence of the tuberculosis has not gone up, District TB Control Officer N. Vasundhara said.
As part of the outreach programme World TB Day is celebrated on March 24 and a rally taken out and a programme conducted to boost the morale of the field staff working for the control of the disease, she said.
On Monday, District Collector is expected to flag off the rally and the officials from medical and health department, including RDM&HS N.R.V. Soma Raju, DMHO R. Shyamala, Additional DMHO R. Ramesh, district coordinator hospital services B.K. Naik and superintendent GHCCD G. Sambasiva Rao, among others, are expected to attend.

The private healthcare sector has not taken the reporting of TB seriously, though they are mandated by law to report it to the District TB Control Unit. This results in under-reporting of the incidence of the disease and affecting the control of this infectious disease in the district, she pointed out.
The rally is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. from Siripuram Junction and go up to the Government Hospital for Chest and Chest Diseases, Peda Waltair. This would be followed by a meeting at the District TB Control Unit.
