Take project work seriously: former JNTU-H VC

Employability has become a serious issue for the students and many are forced to take up low paying jobs because they are lacking in skills, former vice chancellor JNTU-Hyderabad and Chairman DRDO Recruitment and Assessment Centre DN Reddy said advising students to take their project work seriously.

Students should look at internships and apprenticeships to improve their skills, he said speaking at the inauguration of the four-day National Science Day celebrations at the Naval Science and Technology Laboratory here on Friday. Students can take up apprenticeship and internships in a number of ongoing projects of the DRDO laboratories, he added.

Prof Reddy cautioned the students against looking at easy ways of getting their project like paying and getting print outs of projects from shops.

NSTL allows MTech students to do their project work and also there are junior research fellowship and senior research fellowship projects in the lab, Outstanding Scientist and Director NSTL C Durga Malleswar said.

Employability gap has become a serious issue, he said underscoring the importance of the students getting real working experience.

Prof Reddy inaugurated an exhibition of models of indigenous technologies developed by the NSTL and some working projects of 25 engineering colleges and 10 schools from in and around Visakhapatnam.
