With the increasing presence of people, entities and organisations on the Internet, the existing protocol on Internet names and addresses IPv4 is running out of names. To meet the burgeoning need of names and be future ready in this aspect the world is shifting to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).
A seminar on increasing awareness on IPv6 and IT security was conducted for the members of the Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Thursday. Key speaker was the senior advisor from Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), Australia, Srinivas Chendi (Sunny). APNIC is the body which allocates and regulates IP address in the Asia Pacific Region.
Mr. Chendi spoke about the need to adopt IPv6 on priority and highlighted the shortage of Ipv4 addresses that is affecting the Internet community. Further, the adoption of the IPv6 protocol was critical for the Smart City and Digital India Projects as they would depend on the publicly routable IP addresses for monitoring and data collection. He also spoke about various threats in IT security and best practises to mitigate cyber threats.

Mr. Chendi also offered to conduct a Law Enforcement Agency (LEA) workshop for the police and judicial wings of AP Government as part of the community development of APNIC. They had conducted similar workshops for the Delhi police and various agencies across the Asia Pacific region, he said.
Secretary VITA Winston Adams requested all IT & ITES member companies to consciously take measures on Internet security as this would protect the intellectual property of the organisation and requested CEO, Datasoft Comnet, Durga Prasad to co-ordinate with APNIC, Australia, and organise a three-day certification workshop which would be the first of its kind in the city.
