Students should not limit themselves to only academics but also spend some time in other activities and sports, principal AU College of Engineering G.S.N Raju said while inaugurating the cultural events of the ongoing tech fest i-genesis in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

The engineering students from different parts of the state who assembled for the festival let their hair down and exhibited their talent in music and other activities.

Nutrition Week

Two lectures were arranged by the Department of Foods, Nutrition & Dietetics, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in connection with the 31 National Nutrition Week celebrations. First lecture was by scientist from National Institute of Nutrition Anil Dube on “Nutrition awareness – key to healthy nation”. This was followed by a talk by demonstration officer of the University Community Nutrition Extension Unit Venkateswarlu on balanced diet and importance of low cost nutritious recipes.

The second lecture was delivered by associate professor of Microbiology and Food Science & Technology of GITAM University L Anita on trans-fatty acids. The programme was preceded by a talk by principal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences S. Ganapathy.

Memorial Lecture

Director Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, P. Balaram delivered the Prof Suri Bhagavantham Memorial Lecture organised by the Visakhapatnam Regional Centre of the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences. He spoke on Chemical Analysis in the age of Biology. Director National Institute of Nutrition B Sesikeran emphasised on the need for quality research in science.

Vice-president of Visakhapatnam centre of AP Akademi of Sciences KV Madhava Rao, principal AU College of Science and Technology V Veeraiah, former Rector of Andhra University P Rajendra Prasad, other professors and Fellows of the Akademi were also present.

Yoga Camp

AU Department of Yoga & Consciousness is organising a 20-day special yoga camp for diabetes mellitus through yogic technique and prayanama from September 10. The classes will be held between 3 and 4 p.m.

Supplementary exams

Advanced supplementary examinations for BE/BTech first semester III year and first semester II year are scheduled to be conducted between September 10 and September 15, according to a release issued by the deputy registrar (examinations) of the Andhra University. The III year examinations are to be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and II year examinations from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
