Students take part in road safety meet

Website, designed for school and college students, launched

A PowerPoint presentation on medical aspects of accident injuries kept around 100 students of BVK Degree College, who participated in the programme organised by Avagahana Road Safety Awareness Trust, engrossed for about an hour on the college premises on Wednesday.

Chairman of the trust T. Srinivasa Rao, who is an assistant professor of Orthopaedics at Andhra Medical College, spoke on the medical aspects of head injuries and their effect on motorists wearing helmets and those without helmets. He also spoke on drunken driving and driving with seat belts and without seat belts.

On accidents due to wrong parking on highways, Dr. Srinivasa Rao said that a motorist hitting a stationary vehicle at 100 kmph would sustain deceleration injuries. He said that the organisation was also planning to hold competitions on road safety for students and to hold meetings on road safety at various colleges every month.

Website launched

A website www.avagaahanaroadsafety.org was launched to involve more and more volunteers for the safety programmes. The website has been designed for school and college students and their parents.

Motor Vehicle Inspector Butchiraju gave a presentation on traffic rules.
