Opposition parties staged demonstrations on Saturday against the Central Government announcement in the Lok Sabha on Friday that special status to Andhra Pradesh was not possible.
The City Congress Committee organised a rasta roko at Jagadamba junction and APCC general secretary Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao said the BJP went back on its promise of special status and package to AP, while Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu proved to be inefficient as he failed to convince the Central Government on this issue.
It was a shame on the part of Telugu Desam and Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu who demanded special status to AP must resign, he said.

Tussle
The CPI came down heavily on the TDP Government and Mr. Venkaiah Naidu. Party’s State assistant secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy said Mr. Naidu deceived the people by claiming at every meeting that AP would get special status for 10 years.
When the CPI workers tried to burn an effigy of Government the police tried to snatch it away.
This sparked off a tussle between the police and women members of the CPI. The YSR Congress leaders demanded the State and Central leaders of TDP and BJP to resign as they failed to get the special status to the State. Vamsikrishna Srinivas said the Central Government was repeatedly deceiving the people of AP.
He wanted film star Pavan Kalyan to raise his voice at least now. District president G. Amarnath and others participated in the protest and when the party workers and leaders burnt an effigy of State and Central governments, police took them away.
Lok Satta held a demonstration in front of the Gandhi statue near GVMC main office. Its general secretary Bheesetti Babji demanded that the Centre must grant special status to AP.
