July 31, 2014 12:30 am | Updated 12:30 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Six consultants have applied for preparation of detailed project report (DPR) on Metro Rail for the city.

At the pre-bid stage, 14 companies had evinced interest, and several queries were raised at a meeting with them.

Bids by the six companies will now be evaluated. Preliminary evaluation will be taken up on some of the parameters by the GVMC.

“However, the State government has to issue a G.O. forming an expert committee to evaluate the companies that bid,” Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana told reporters on Wednesday.

The evaluation is expected to take three months, first taking technical bids and then financial bids. Once the agency is decided, it will take four months for feasibility report, on the basis of which the DPR will be prepared.

The DPRs would include feasibility for mono rail and feeder networks to metro by the Bus Rapid Transit System as well, said Mr. Satyanarayana.

Though, initially, the bids were for 25-km at an estimated cost of Rs.1.6 crore, they were subsequently increased to 70-km to 80-km increasing the fee pro rata. The GVMC broadly identified five corridors, going by peak traffic density.
