Schools having ISKCON as mid-day meal provider raided

Rice being provided by ISKCON for midday meals at three government schools in the city was found to be hardly sufficient for the students, in raids conducted by officials from the Vigilance and Enforcement Department on Thursday.

Thursday’s raids came in the backdrop of the Department’s investigation into the alleged diversion of midday meal rice bags by ISKCON.

K. Sravani, Regional Vigilance & Enforcement Officer (RVEO), Visakhapatnam, said they inspected the implementation of the midday meal scheme at KDPM High School in China Waltair, RBM Upper Primary School in Dabagardens, and AVNC High School in One Town area.

“At KDPM School, the officer said that the quantity of cooked food supplied on Thursday was sufficient for only 15 students, whereas on paper, it was shown that they have supplied food to 218 students. There are also no proper records,” Ms. Sravani said.

At RBM School in Dabagardens, there are 287 students for whom 35.3 kg rice has to be cooked as per prescribed norms, but the quantity of cooked rice being served was around 20 kg.

“At AVNC High School, the number of eggs supplied was short by 50 eggs. When we inquired with the headmaster, he said that the eggs were damaged,” Ms. Sravani said.Vigilance Inspectors R. Mallikarjuna Rao, N. Srinivasa Rao and a few others participated in the inspections.
