The parents of A. Amar Goutham (24), a supervisor in M/s L & T Anjali, who died in the recent accident at the Ship Building Centre of the Navy here, cried foul play alleging suppression of facts by the officials concerned and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.
Amar did his M.S. (Advanced Mechanical Engineering) from UK and worked as a project engineer for a year in NSTL. He joined L&T Anjali, a subsidiary of M/s L & T, as supervisor in August last year in the project of ‘construction of nuclear submarine for Indian Navy’. “On March 8, I received an anonymous phone call around 5.30 p.m. saying that an accident had occurred and Amar sustained minor injuries and was admitted to the INHS Kalyani. After 15 minutes, I received another call asking me to come to KGH. After searching at the Casualty and Emergency Operation Theatre, I got a call around 7.30 p.m. asking me to come to the KGH Mortuary. Till that time I had no information that my son had died,” the victim’s father Krishna Rao recalled before the media here on Saturday.
“A team of officials/employees of L & T visited our house on March 11 and one of them, Pandey, explained that there was a big sound on the ill-fated day and Amar sustained serious injuries, which led to his death. The team members did not respond to our doubts on the plea that it came under ‘defence secrecy’ and they are helpless,” Mr. Krishna Rao said.

He wondered what kind of treatment was given to a lifeless body at INHS Kalyani. He suspected foul play in sending Amar to INHS Kalyani and the other two injured to Seven Hills Hospital. He alleged that the post-mortem was also one-sided and prepared basing on the information given by the officials of L & T Company.
“We have not been provided copies of the inquest report, post-mortem report, panchanama and FIR and we suspect a major conspiracy in this case,” he said.
