Sanitation still a far cry

Those residing in Venkateswara Colony, Thatichetlapalem, are prone to vector-borne diseases.

The main reason for this is the clogged storm-water drain that passes through the colony.

gedda , access to health and hygiene has become a cause for concern. Residents say that the standard of living is often affected by the poor sanitation.

The narrow lanes in the neighbourhood are congested as there is no traffic discipline. Vehicles and autorickshaws are often parked in a disorganised manner. Most children study in the GVMC School located in the area. A community hall is where colony residents celebrate functions together.

Apparently, there is a need to run a massive campaign to promote health and hygiene.

“Although Venkateswara Colony has gone through a transformation over the years, proper maintenance of the drains and roads is still a far cry in the region. Unless a collective effort is made, it is next to impossible to expect any sort of progress in the neighbourhood,” say residents.
