RS panel discusses steps to control pollution

The Committee on Subordinate Legislation of the Rajya Sabha met under the chairmanship of T. Subbarami Reddy here and held discussions with the State and district officials on various issues pertaining to pollution and remedial measures. Representatives of the Coast Guard, Navy and Dredging Corporation of India spoke on various aspects of coastal pollution.

Mr. Subbarami Reddy called upon the PSUs to promote the city as ‘green Visakha’.

Committee Member K. Keshava Rao sought details on the implementation of the Coastal Zone Regulation guidelines.

Senior officials of various PSUs and government departments attended the meeting.

Collector N. Yuvraj, VPT Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu, Member Secretary of AP Pollution Control Board G.S.S. Prasad, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant CMD P. Madhusudhan, VUDA Chairman T. Babu Rao Naidu, General Manager of East Coast Railway Rajiv Vishnoi and Divisional Railway Manager Chandralekha Mukherjee were among those who attended the meeting.

The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital at Aganampudi will be ready in 18 months.
