Rs. 1.5 crore recovered in Central Bank fraud case

The police seized the amount from the accused within 12 days of the complaint being lodged.

A five-member police team has nabbed Abhayanand Paswan, who was accused in the Central Bank theft case, and recovered Rs.1,50,03,000 out of the stolen amount of Rs.1.6 crore, according to Commissioner of Police J. Poornachandra Rao. The arrested person is a former cash chest custodian of the bank.

Producing the accused before the media at the police conference hall here on Sunday, the Commissioner of Police said the police swung into action after receiving a complaint from the bank on June 29 and arrested the accused on July 1. Central Bank of India assistant general manager Govada Venkata Subba Rao, in his complaint, revealed to the police, that he had instructed bank manager of the Seethampeta branch Y.V. Rambabu to inspect the currency chest and he had found a currency shortage of Rs.1.60 crore. As many as 16 bundles of Rs.1000 denomination from the BIN No 51 of the currency chest were missing. The CCTV camera video clippings revealed the involvement of the accused.

He was transferred to the Central Bank of India, Sahibganj district, Jharkhand, after the missing of cash was detected.

Subsequently a complaint was lodged at the IV town police station.

A case was registered and investigation was launched.

The police team arrested the accused at his residence in Sahibganj district and recovered Rs.1.04 crore from his house.

He was produced in the junior magistrate court in Sahibganj and was granted four-day transit remand.

The police team, based on further information from the accused, had gone to Patna and recovered the remaining amount from the house of one Sujith Kumar who was a friend of the brother of the accused, Rohan Dev.

In all, Rs.1,50,03,000 was recovered from the accused. The police seized the amount from the accused within 12 days of the complaint being lodged.

The Commissioner of Police commended the police team for doing a good job. The team included Central Crime Station Inspector of Police M. Elia Babu, Pendurthi Inspector S.K. Hussein, IV town Inspector P.V.V.S.N. Krishna Rao, Sub-Inspector of Central Crime Station K. Jeevan Kanth and constable K. Sairam.
