330 gms of gold and Rs. 4.9 lakh recovered

In a joint operation, Central Crime Station and Three Town Police Station (crime) arrested Rajasekhar Yadav, for allegedly robbing about 800 gms of gold ornaments and Rs. 8.5 lakh in cash from the house of Sharad Agarwal.

The theft was reportedly committed on November 21, 2014, by the accused who was working as a domestic servant in the victim’s house, located close to Seven Hills Hospital.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), S. Varada Raju, the accused, a native of Katoria village in the Banka district of Bihar, committed the crime when he was alone at home and fled to his native village. A team from the CCS led by Inspector Raghu Srinivas a few days ago recovered about 330 gms of gold by visiting the native village of the accused.

On Saturday a team led by Three Town inspector K.S.N. Konda arrested Rajasekhar Yadav from the Visakhapatnam railway station and recovered Rs. 4.9 lakh from him. Addressing the media here on Saturday, ADCP Varada Raju said that people employing domestic helps should do some prior screening, collect some kind of ID proof, take his or her photograph and if possible visit the servant’s place of residence.

He also cautioned that in many of the cases, the victims have been exaggerating the quantity of stolen material, which is creating a huge problem for the police, when the accused are caught and the materials are recovered in full or in part.

“In this case the victim initially said that about 800 gms of gold, including some diamond jewellery was stolen. But investigation reveals that about 400 gms were imitation ornaments,” pointed out the ADCP.
