May 17, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A Revenue Inspector of Ananthagiri mandal K. Eswar Rao was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from a complainant at Ananthagiri in Visakhapatnam Agency on Monday.

DSP of ACB, K. Ramakrishna Prasad, said the complainant M. Lalitha owns around 4.2 acres of land near Borra Junction under Ananthagiri mandal. The RI demanded Rs.1.5 lakh as bribe from Lalitha for processing the computerisation of land records. Lalitha was agreed to pay Rs. 1 lakh in three phases for doing the official favour.

Fed up with harassments from the revenue official, the tribal woman approached the ACB a few days back. After verifying the facts, the ACB officials laid a trap and arrested Eswar Rao, his assistant Janaki Eswar Rao and Village Revenue Assistant Lingamurthy. According to Mr. Prasad, on the instructions of K. Easwar Rao, his assistant Janaki Easwar Rao received the bribe amount and handed it over to the VRA. The ACB officials arrested all the three and produced them before the ACB court in Visakhapatnam on Monday.
