Review meet held on proposed airport

Surveys are being conducted by three teams for acquisition of 5,040 acres of land for the proposed new Visakhapatnam International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district.

Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao held a review meeting here in this regard on Monday.

The Minister sought information from officials about the status of land acquisition. The officials informed that two plans had been made for land acquisition. The three teams would be headed by Deputy Collectors.

District Collector N. Yuvaraj, Joint Collector J. Niwas, Vizianagaram Joint Collector B. Rama Rao, Bhogapuram mandal president K. Bangar Raju participated in the meeting.

The MPP told the Minister that leaders and farmers were in favour of going ahead with the first plan and they had already met the Chief Minister in Vijayawada and held discussions on the issue.

The Minister said that he would strive to obtain further clarity on the issue after discussions with the Chief Minister.
