Relay fasts, rallies held to press for SCS

YSRC Students Union leaders, who were on a relay fast, holding a bedsheet over their heads to protect themselves from the hot sun at Andhra University campus on Saturday.

Relay hunger strikes, rallies and protests were organised at various places in the city on Saturday to demand granting of Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

A relay fast was observed by students, under the aegis of YSRCongress Students Union, opposite the Gandhi statue on Andhra University campus. The tent was removed by the police but the student leaders continued the fast.

YSR Congress Party leader Tynala Vijay Kumar called on the fasting YSR SU leaders and sat with them for sometime. He said students could achieve anything and make governments fall, if they were united.

YSRCSU State general secretary Bakkamunthala Kanta Rao, State secretary T. Suresh Kumar and B. Mohan Babu were among those who participated in the relay fast.

Relay hunger strikes were organised by YSR Congress Party

at Gajuwaka, NAD Kotha Road junction, Gurudwara, Isukathota and other areas in the city. Party leaders Tippala Nagi Reddy, Malla Vijay Prasad and Tynala Vijay Kumar, Sattiramakrishna Reddy were among those who led the protests.

Telugu Desam leader and Visakhapatnam South MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar rode a bicycle from the party office at Marripalem to the Government Circuit House, about 10 km away, to press for the granting of SCS to AP.
