‘Property theft, cyber crime high on agenda’

R.K. Meena takes charge as City Police Commissioner

The City Police will devise ways to check the property thefts, said Rajeev Kumar Meena after assuming the office of the Police Commissioner, here on Thursday.

A 1995 batch IPS officer, Mr. Meena took charge from incumbent Police Commissioner Mahesh Chanda Laddha who has been posted as the Inspector-General of Police (personnel) in the State Police headquarters.

“Our prime focus area will be to maintain the law and order. Property theft cases are on the rise and we shall launch initiatives to bring down such crimes,” Mr. Meena told the media.

Referring to the cyber crimes, he said, “We already have a police station exclusively for cyber crimes. We will put in efforts to ensure speedy disposal of the cyber crime cases, with the help of the latest forensic and detection equipment.”

Traffic issues

Saying that traffic issues were among the other priorities, he said the police would work diligently to check the the number of road accidents. “As it is my first posting to this city, I need at least a week to study the issues and crime pattern,” Mr. Meena said.

Heaping praises on the outgoing Police Commissioner Mr. Laddha, he said, “My predecessor has done a good job. I will study the initiatives taken by Mr. Laddha and take the necessary steps.”

During his 24-year stint as an IPS officer, Mr. Meena has worked in various capacities including as the IGP of South Coastal Zone Guntur Range. He holds a PG degree in commerce and in public administration from the University of Birmingham.
