Photo exhibition on environment organised

With an aim to promote awareness among people on the threat to environment due to illegal trade in wildlife, a photo exhibition was organised by Paryavaran Margadarsi Vaisakhi. The photo exhibition organised on Saturday at the Visakha Public Library, in the run up to the World Environment Day, was on the theme of zero tolerance for illegal wildlife trade.

In the last 40 years 52 per cent of the wild animals have gone extinct, the organisers said in a statement issued here. The volume of illicit trade is estimated to be Rs 1.50 lakh crore annually. It stands fourth in illegal trade after narcotics, human trafficking and arms trade.

The photo exhibition had sections Let’s try our best to save the wildlife. Let’s say no to trade in wildlife and animal products. Let’s go to wilderness to study them and become affectionate towards them.

Let’s enlighten all about biodiversity and the threat to wildlife. Let’s appeal to the Government to protect all the species.
