Pet dogs were vaccinated free of cost under the aegis of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on the occasion of Zoonosis Day on Saturday.

Stressing on the significance of Zoonosis Day, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry V. Venkateswara Rao said that every year about 55,000 persons were losing their lives due to rabies. This calls for vaccination of all pet dogs by their owners. Chief Medical Officer of Health (GVMC) P.V. Ramana Murthy said that the corporation was supply around 4,500 vaccines free of cost every year through six veterinary dispensaries under GVMC limits. He called upon dog owners to avail of the free vaccines at the dispensaries.
