Petrol dealers threaten strike over inspection

March 03, 2014 01:30 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 05:58 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Following a stand-off between Legal Metrology officials and retail petrol dealers on inspections terming automatic nozzles for dispensing as “unauthorised,” the dealers have threatened to go on strike on Monday if the inspections did not stop.

As many as 24 such nozzles were seized at a bunk at Siripuram on Saturday leading to the manual dispensing.

Visakha Petrol Dealers Association secretary T. Narayana Reddy said the dispensers were stamped every year by officials of Legal Metrology Department and the respective oil companies duly calibrating it.

The property is not owned by dealers but merely operated, he says.

Every year before the due date the officials are informed and the stamping has been going on for the past several years.
