The overflowing manhole near Ushodaya Junction in Sector VIII of MVP Colony published in these columns in Civic Scene has the civic administration moving in to rectify it.

On Thursday morning, Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana went to the spot to see for himself what the problem was. It was his first visit of the day early in morning.

Before going there, he had called up the Chief Engineer and asked him to send the Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer concerned to the spot.

The officials came along with a machine and sanitation workers to rectify it. The lid of the manhole was removed and the blocked manhole cleared.

Mr. Satyanarayana reacted with the residents living in the vicinity to know the problem in full. They complained that it was a frequent problem and the foul smell emanating was unbearable. Though the civic workers rectified it, it would recur, they said. The garbage thrown from a locality adjacent to Shivaji Park, it is flowing downstream and getting stuck.

The Commissioner instructed the officials to see that it did not recur.
